Fishing in Nisyros

Many have said that the Mediterranean is "fished out". That is not exactly true. There are wonderful places to view and catch fish all over Nisyros. We caught and eat several Octopus while on our trip. They tasted great and were exciting to catch. Rod fishing is not very good. Most people use spear guns and snorkel gear. We opted for the hand propelled spear and had some exciting octopus catches. Octopus are extremely hard to see underwater as they blend into their surroundings extremely well. We also had the opportunity to join a local fisherman named Demetrius on his fishing boat. We pulled up several small fish from his net. These tasted good a night later after being baked. Snorkeling is the best way to see fish. There are so many different types to view. The colors and variety are quite amazing and fun to find.
