Boat Cruise Around Nisyros
Enetikon Travel has a boat available for charter for trips around the island. First they must have 15 people at a rate of 15E each. We had about 20 wonderful people. There was Harry Emmanouilidis and his family. Manny and his family. Then there was a couple we met earlier that day from Thessalonica. We pulled out of Mandraki and went left toward the Spiliani Monastery. We saw all of the Mandraki coast with its houses and shops. Next was Hohlakos (Black Stone) beach. After just a couple of small beaches after Hohlakos the coast turned into jagged rock. It looked as if hot lava had poured into the sea and cooled in a violent reaction. There were these types of amazing jagged cliff formations most of the way around Nisyros until we came to the beach called Pachy Amos (translates to Fat Sand because of the pebbles that comprise the beach). Well before Pachy Amos was the old town of Avlaki. This looked mostly abandoned but perked my interest for a road trip next year. Once at Pachy Amos the boat pulled up about 200 meters away from the fat sand and let the cruisers out for a short swim. I had my snorkel and was the first into the refreshing clear waters. One boy named Alexander swam ashore. After Alexander made it safely back to the boat we set out for Pali the fishing village. On the way was Lies. This is perhaps a two mile stretch of sandy beaches with lots of pumas and some small caves. Then it was a view of Loutra and back to Mandraki. It was a wonderful trip that inspired all of us greatly. We really got to see the wild side of Nisyros and got to appreciate just how volcanic the rest of it appears.
Please enjoy the rest of the photos
